What Are Braces?

Braces are an orthodontic treatment we offer that uses metal brackets, wires, and bands to place gentle pressure on the teeth to reposition them. It’s a highly customized process guided by Dr. Bernstein, who uses imaging, a visual evaluation, and technology to achieve optimal results.

Your braces treatment is carefully monitored at appointments, spaced every four to eight weeks. At those appointments, Dr. Bernstein often makes adjustments to the braces so they continuously shift the teeth into the proper positions. Overall, this option tends to be more cost-effective than clear aligners and doesn’t require the hassle of remembering to remove a device before eating.

Why Choose Braces at Our Windsor Practice?

First and foremost, Bernstein Orthodontics offers clear braces in Windsor, which is a unique option that not every practice in the area offers. This particular treatment uses transparent or tooth-colored brackets, and possibly wires, to blend in with your teeth and not be as visible as standard braces.

Regardless of the type, trust that you or your child will be well cared for from start to finish. To make the process as enjoyable and simple as possible, Dr. Bernstein and the rest of the team will aim to keep you and your child comfortable throughout.

And no matter which team member assists you, rest assured they’re dedicated to your comfort and results

Who Are Braces Suitable For?

Braces are an ideal solution for children because adhering to the requirements of clear aligners is often too much of a responsibility. It’s also a suitable option for pre-teens, teens, and adults who have bite problems, jaw alignment issues, crooked teeth, gaps, and spacing concerns. They’re also suitable for people with any of the following:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Crossbites
  • Open bites

Adults may opt for braces if they want a cost-effective solution for fixing the aforementioned issues. They may also want braces if clear aligners aren’t an option for their specific case, such as if it’s too severe. Often, adults choose to have braces before a special event, such as a wedding.

Treatment Duration & What to Expect

So what can you expect when you get dental braces in Windsor?

Firstly, the length of treatment is usually between 18 and 24 months. However, some people only need braces for six months to a year. So you’re aware, if you or your child has a complex issue, braces may be needed for up to 36 months. You’ll be told at the consultation how long treatment is expected to last.

Also, during this visit, we’ll take images, examine the teeth, and answer your questions. Once we determine that you or your child would benefit from braces, we’ll map out a treatment plan.

Braces aren’t applied at the consultation, so you’ll need to return to our practice at a future date for brace application. You or your child will get to select the color(s) of the rubber bands at this point. The entire process usually takes one to two hours and begins with cleaning and prepping your teeth. Not only does this prevent decay underneath the braces, but it also helps the brackets to adhere to the teeth better.

We’ll then place the brackets using an adhesive and string a wire through them to apply gentle pressure to the teeth. At first, the braces may feel a bit uncomfortable, but that feeling fades after a few days as your teeth adjust. Every four to eight weeks, we’ll schedule follow-up visits to check progress and make any needed adjustments.

Braces Cost & Payment Options

Typically, the cost of getting braces in Windsor ranges between $2,750 and $10,000. Standard metal braces are generally less expensive than modern braces — ones that are more discreet and comfortable. The cost also varies based on the complexity of your case, especially considering you’ll need more visits, adjustments, and X-rays whenever you need an intensive approach.

Keep in mind that insurance will cover braces when the treatment isn’t merely cosmetic. We accept a variety of providers, and we offer interest-free payment plans to help you take care of your financial responsibilities. And that option is even available if insurance won’t cover treatment, or you don’t have any.

“Dr. Bernstein and his staff were fantastic! My twin girls had a huge under-bite and in less than 2 years, Dr. Bernstein was able to get their teeth straight and under-bite is gone. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to get braces.”
