Rael Bernstein, D.D.S., M.S.

 

 

Dr. Bernstein was born and raised in South Africa where he attended the prestigious Wits Dental School finishing top of his class. He then went on to complete his orthodontic specialty residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1998.

 

Following his residency, Dr. Bernstein accepted a fellowship position at the University where he became a clinical assistant professor at the orthodontic department. Having a yearning for a more similar climate to South Africa, and tired of shoveling snow, he relocated to Southern California where he met his wife Debbie, also a dental specialist (prosthodontist).  Dr. Bernstein relocated to Santa Rosa in 2002 to get away from the hustle and bustle of Southern California.

 

Dr. Bernstein is an avid sportsman and sports fan. He likes to work out, play golf and rugby, snowboard, ride motorcycles and play tennis and is usually game for any new sport. He and his wife like to travel and visit family and occasionally make it back to Africa. Be sure to ask him about his many adventures in the African bush growing up.

 

As a former orthodontic patient, he not only understands his patient's needs and concerns but also the wonderful benefits of a healthy bite and broad smile. Please feel free to ask him about his own orthodontic experience.

 

Dr. Bernstein is committed to excellence in Orthodontics.  He teaches regularly at the Santa Rosa Junior College and gives seminars regularly to the dental community.  He has also been invited to teach the Damon System to orthodontists from around the world.

 

He recently served as President of our local (Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake Counties)  Redwood Empire Dental Society for 2009, and is also an active member of: the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the California Association of Orthodontics, the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, and the American Association of Orthodontics.  He is also a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics.

 

 

 

Kimberly Mahood, D.M.D., M.S.D.

 

 

Dr. Kimberly Mahood was born in Seoul, South Korea but grew up and spent most of her life in the beautiful bluegrass state of Kentucky.  She obtained her dental degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry where she graduated valedictorian of her class.  After completing dental school, she furthered her education and clinical experience by obtaining additional training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Advanced General Dentistry.  She pursued her passion for creating beautiful smiles by completing the orthodontics residency program at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.   During this time she obtained a Masters Degree and was also awarded the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activities Award.

Upon completing her orthodontic residency program, Dr. Mahood was appointed as a part-time faculty member at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in the Department of Orthodontics.  She finds her interaction with the orthodontic residents and dental students truly rewarding, and especially enjoys teaching in the pre-doctoral Invisalign clinic.

She understands the importance of being involved in organized dentistry and maintains her membership in the following organizations:  American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, California Dental Association, and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists. 

Dr. Mahood now considers the Bay Area home with her husband, Peter.  They enjoy traveling together and spending time with family and friends.  She also enjoys reading and watching college sports in her spare time.
